Maruti Suzuki Swift DZiRE

Maruti Suzuki has been reborn as a make with a portfolio of global models. Way back in 1994 when Maruti Suzuki had introduced its first entry level sedan 'Esteem', it set a benchmark that continued to rule till late 2000. With the aging of Esteem, Maruti Suzuki scrapped the model from 2008 and has now introduced the new Swift DZiRE sedan. Swift DZiRE is the sedan version of the famous Swift hatchback and resembles its sibling in most aspects.



While designing the new sedan, Maruti Suzuki has made an effort to retain the original overall design theme of the Swift hatchback. But the rear of the car is a complete deviation from the Swift and resembles the recently launched Maruti Suzuki SX4 Sedan.



The Swift DZiRE comes in six variants - LXi, VXi, and ZXi (Petrol) and LDi, VDi, and ZDi (Diesel). The trims are packed with upscale accessories, quality interior materials and safety features that are a first for the segment. The new car certainly looks to be a good replacement for the Esteem. By incorporating the design of the Swift hatchback, Maruti Suzuki has saved heavily on design cost and has managed the project on a low budget.



The DZiRE provides a choice of the same two engines available on the hatchback version of Swift. The petrol engine is a 1298cc 16-valve In-line 4 that delivers 87 bhp@6000 rpm and a maximum torque of 113 Nm@4500 rpm. The diesel variants get a 1248cc turbocharged DDiS engine that generates 75 bhp@4000 rpm and a maximum torque of 190 Nm@2000 rpm.



The Swift DZiRE variants have lower kerb weight in their class with petrol variants ranging from 1010-1035 kg and Diesel variants ranging from 1090-1115 kg. The lower kerb weight advantage translates to good performance of the car. The gearbox is slick and the clutch is smooth. This makes driving the car a pleasure.



Overall, the DZiRE gives the driver good feel and performance that is similar to the Swift hatchback.



The Maruti Swift DZiRE retains the cheeky appeal of its hatchback sibling with a more premium look. Though the front fascia looks almost the same as the hatchback, it has got a flashy chrome grille and slightly sharper design headlamps.



From the side, the sedan has a complete redesign compared to the hatch, especially from the second pillar. It has bigger doors and larger window glass areas that make occupants feel roomier.



The DZiRE's back is entirely different from the hatchback. The trunk lid is raised and has a lip that merges with the shoulder line of the car. A thick chrome garnish on top of the rear number plate attempts to offset the heaviness of the oversized trunk lid. The rear also flaunts new clear-lens combination lamps.



The car's interior has a luxurious look and feel with the use of good materials. The steering wheel is the same unit that is offered with the Swift and SX4. The instrument cluster has round dials with chrome surround and features a white backlight.



Compared to the hatchback, the most notable changes in the sedan are in the top-end variants that now come with standard steering mounted controls for the music system and the new music system has been well integrated into the dashboard to add a lot of charm. The DZiRE also has a comfortable seating position for the rear occupants compared to the Swift hatchback. The rear seat backrests are angled at 27 degrees.



The VXi, ZXi, VDi, and ZDi come with quality fittings like integrated audio system, tachometer, and convenience features such as audible headlights-on reminder, centre and front cabin lights, vanity mirror, rear seat center armrest, and front electric power windows. The top-end ZXi and ZDi variants are equipped with more upscale features like front airbags, ABS with EBD brake assist, rear window defogger, adjustable tilt steering, and automatic climate control.

De acordo com uma subsidi�ria russa da marca, o Swift Sport ter� motoriza��o de 1.6 litros, quatro cilindros, a gasolina, que desenvolveria 134 cavalos de pot�ncia. A vers�o de entrada teria transmiss�o seis marchas, manual, mas uma op��o por c�mbio autom�tico tamb�m estar� dispon�vel.

2011 Suzuki Swift Sport Cars

The first generation Suzuki Swift was introduced in 2000 as a replacement for the Suzuki Cultus. Outside of Japan, the "Suzuki Ignis" name was used. Both three- and five-door hatchback body styles were offered, although the three-door was not offered as part of the regular lineup in Japan. 2003–2008 Suzuki Ignis (Germany). The Swift was powered by a new generation of Suzuki inline-four gasoline engines, the M family. Engine displacements of 1.3 and 1.5-litres were offered, both with a five-speed manual transmission or optional four-speed automatic. The vehicle was available with either front or four-wheel drive. Vehicles fitted with the 1.3-litre engine were designated HT51S, with the 1.5-litre version assigned HT81S.

 New 2011 Suzuki Swift has grown slightly in length (90 mm) with a 50 mm wheelbase. For powertrain, a new petrol engine that incorporates a 1.2 liter Dual VVT (variable intake and exhaust valve timing) is used which produces 94PS at 6,000 rpm, slightly more than the output of 1.3 liters. Torque is also improved to 118Nm at 4,800 rpm.

The new Suzuki Swift 1.2-liter engine with manual transmission produces just 116g/km on the combined cycle, which represents a 24g/km or 17 percent increase over the 1.3. An optional automatic transmission is available for  motor gasoline since its launch. A 1.3-liter diesel engine will also be available and planned for introduction in the UK in early 2011, the engine emits 109g/km (down from 119g/km) and has an impressive combined fuel consumption 67.3mpg, an improvement in an already very credible 62.8mpg Swift DDiS output.

Many of the bikes in the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum tell the story of technological progress and innovation. This bike tells the story of one very determined racer.



Donny Schmit carved out his own career path to motocross success. The Minnesota native got off to a good start by winning the 125cc West Region title in the 1986 AMA Supercross Series. But Schmit then struggled in the premier 250cc class, particularly on tighter Supercross circuits.


Recognizing that his skills translated better to outdoor motocross, Schmit dropped out of Supercross to focus on the 125 MX series, losing his Suzuki factory ride in the process. Focusing on a grueling training regimen, he was picked up in 1990 by Team Bieffe Suzuki to race the 125 Motocross World Championship. Schmit won four races on this motorcycle en route to the 125 Motocross World Championship...

2011 Suzuki SX4 Sedan, Crossover and Sportback

2011 Suzuki’s five-door SX4 Crossover and its sedan counterpart, the all-new four-door 2011 Suzuki SX4 Sport led December sales. Launched in late years, the SX4 Sport has enjoyed media acclaim and popular response in the showroom thanks to its appealing design and standard features competitive with compact sedans costing thousands more. The good news continues under the hood. Since its introduction, the 2011 SX4 has benefited from a full 2.0 liters of displacement. That capacity, a little more than 120 cubic inches, provides a competitive edge when contrasted with the bulk of the SX4’s competitive segment; there, a displacement of 1.8 liters is more often the norm. For 2011, Suzuki utilizes a 2.0-liter engine (new for MY2010) boasting five percent more horsepower and 4 lb.-ft. of additional torque than the previous (through MY2009) powerplant, while delivering – in the EPA cycle – 32 highway miles per gallon (manual). In a larger 2.4-liter displacement application, the same engine architecture is sported by Suzuki’s all-new, technologically advanced 2011 Kizashi.

As before, the 16-valve valvetrain is controlled by dual overhead cams. From the same company building the world’s fastest production motorcycle, one expects competitive performance, and this new 2.0 liter delivers: 150 horsepower at 6,200 rpm, in combination with 140 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,000 rpm with the manual transmission (148 HP CVT). Beyond the numbers are a fluid delivery, instant responsiveness and a much smaller carbon footprint than its predecessor.

Connecting the improved powerplant to the SX4 Sedan’s front wheels is the choice of a six-speed manual or a performance-tuned Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). With the addition of an extra cog, the SX4 driver benefits from six degrees of separation, especially when placing the Suzuki in its competitive segment. Lower gear ratios are more closely spaced, allowing the driver to stay in the sweet spot of the powerband throughout the acceleration cycle. And while the closely spaced ratios improve acceleration when merging or passing, the overdrive sixth gear allows for relaxed cruising at highway speeds, optimizing the driving experience while maximizing fuel efficiency. For added convenience, the CVT optimizes performance and efficiency through a console-mounted gear selector and paddle shifters, better maintaining the engine’s rpm ‘sweet spot’ over a wide range of in-town and freeway driving.

The 2011 Susuki SX4 Sport retains MacPherson struts in the front, with a rear torsion beam in the back. Refined in Europe – and drawing from the widely acclaimed Suzuki Swift – the sport-tuned suspension offers a 10mm lower ride height than non-Sport SX4 models, KYB performance shocks and standard stabilizer bars. The combination of a wide track and large 17-inch alloy wheels with low-profile 50-series tires optimizes the ride and handling balance, while adding to the vehicle’s dynamic personality.

The 2011 Susuki SX4 Sedan comes in three trim levels: Base, LE and new Anniversary Edition value package that adds 17-inch alloy wheels, rear disc brakes, remote keyless entry and paddle shifters to last year’s LE Popular Value Package. 2011 SUZUKI KIZASHI SPORTS CARS

With the launch of the 2011 Suzuki Kizashi, Suzuki is taking aim at the midsize sedan segment. More precisely, the smaller end of the midsize market, since the Kizashi yields several centimetres to its main rivals in wheelbase and overall length. It also stands out, for the time being at least, for the fact that it is offered only as a fully equipped model, with leather upholstery, four-wheel drive, a 2.4-litre engine, continuously variable transmission (CVT), etc.

Access to the front is relatively easy. The seats are very comfortable, with lumbar adjustment for the driver. Legroom is good but headroom is very limited for tall people, whose head is up against the ceiling. The driving position is good. Rear access is made more difficult by the rather narrow door openings. The bench seat, with its rather high cushion, is comfortable for two adults. Headroom and legroom are adequate for all but tall people. The seatback is split 60/40, and there is a small ski pass-through in the 60-section. Folding both sides reveals an opening to the trunk that is a bit narrow and that lacks height. The seatback folds a few centimetres higher than the floor of the trunk, sloping up towards the front. Luggage space is good and the trunk lid opening is relatively large. You have to be careful of the hinges, which can crush things placed underneath.

The interior is carefully finished in good-quality materials. Except for engine noise in average acceleration and above, sound suppression is efficient. Cabin storage is good. Gauges and instruments are well laid out and everything is illuminated at night. The climate control system is efficient. You have to choose between the odometer reading and the outside temperature reading in the information display, which denotes a rather basic design.  For the time being, the Kizashi is offered with a choice of just four paint colours (silver, red, black, white) and one colour, charcoal grey, inside. Needless to say, that’s pretty basic. It’s also surprising that blue is not available, as it is quite a popular colour.

Standard equipment includes eight airbags (two front, four side and two curtain), four-wheel antilock disc brakes, stability control, five head restraints, and good headlights. Visibility is very good on all sides, except on a three-quarter-rear angle. In U.S. government tests, the Kizashi obtained five stars out of five for the protection of front occupants in a frontal impact, and for all occupant protection in a side crash. It earned four stars for rollover resistance. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the Kizashi an Acceptable rating, its second highest, for roof strength, and a Good rating, its highest, for the protection of all occupants in a side or a rear impact.

The 2.4-litre 4-cylinder produces 180 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque. Acceleration and pickup are more what you’d expect from a subcompact than from a midsize car, with performance lacking in vigour and conviction. The engine is noisy in average acceleration and above. The CVT transmission is usually smooth but becomes abrupt when reaccelerating after releasing the throttle. Manual mode is relatively quick.
The Kizashi is a front-wheel drive equipped with a four-wheel-drive system that the driver can activate with a push of a button on the dash. In ordinary driving, the system splits power 95:5 front to rear, but by analysing steering-wheel angle and throttle position, it can transfer up to 50% of power to the rear wheels.

The four-wheel independent suspension tuning blends firmness and suppleness to provide a comfortable ride that is a bit on the firm side. On uneven pavement the reaction can be firm, but not stiff or harsh. In combination with the Kizashi’s rigid platform, this rather firm suspension delivers very good road holding, actively assisted by P235/45R18 tires that will also be costly to replace. The power steering is a tad heavy but stable, precise and relatively quick. The brakes are powerful and resist well to fade.

The 2011 Kizashi is basically a good car, comfortable, pleasant to drive and roomier inside than you’d expect, given its exterior dimensions. However, price, limited colour choice, modest engine performance and the availability of just one model, for the time being, will probably turn off some buyers. Suzuki has already announced that a sport model with a manual transmission is on the way, but they’ll have to offer other, less equipped versions and front-wheel drive to allow the Kizashi to compete more adequately with its rivals, all of which are available in a wider choice of models and trims.

PROS: front comfort, ride, road holding, handling, standard equipment, fit and finish

CONS: headroom (tall people), small opening behind folding seatback, only one model, modest power, noisy in average acceleration and above, openings under front bumper.
